The Klondike Gold Rush, known as "The Last Grand Adventure", was a key event in the economic development of Seattle and the Puget Sound. In 1897, seventy thousand stampeders headed for Seattle to equip themselves with a year's worth of food, clothing, and equipment so that they could live in the Yukon Territory of Canada as they sought their fortunes.   Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park preserves the story of the 1897-98 stampede to the Yukon gold fields and Seattle’s role in this event. The park offers a glimpse at the stories of adventure and hardship of the gold rush. The final outcome of this great stampede helped shape the Seattle we know today.

The Seattle unit of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The park is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day

Directions by Car:  Take the James Street exit from I-5. Proceed down the hill and turn left at Second Avenue, then veer right onto S. Washington Street. One block to your left is Occidental Park; Klondike Gold Rush NHP Visitor Center is located one block south of Washington, on the opposite side of Occidental Park.
